…like a boss.
There are those who have failed a checkride, and those who will. I’ve just joined the 88 ride club after a rough instrument checkride. My 88 (progress checkride) was even worse, but passable. The debrief was definitely an ego-bruising experience, but one that hopefully won’t be repeated.
Compartmentalization is a huge part of pilot training. Putting away emotions when you’re in the cockpit, continuing flying the sortie after mistakes, you can’t let your pride slow you down. Despite the rough patch, our entire flight has now moved on into formation, the last training block of Phase 2 in the T-6.
I can tell you, flying ten feet off the wing of another plane is one of the coolest things I’ve been able to do. The other plane is close. It feels like driving next to a car on a highway close. Doing this in 90 degrees of bank, or in a loop, seems insane. Our IP’s had a little fun demoing all the maneuvers we would be learning.
Got to rebound and get refocused. I am now sim complete. There is nothing but 17 more formation flights between us and our next airframe. Track select is in a month, we are now the senior class in the squadron, we have our big boy patches and nametags, and it’s hard to remember where the year went.
Best wishes to you and the rest of your flight; and good luck with track select.
Tme flies when you are having so much fun…
